"Spiral Shadow" is the 5th full-length studio album by US sludge metal act Kylesa. The album was released through Season of Mist in October While I found "Static Tensions ()" to be an enjoyable and powerful release, I´m ultimately much more fond of "Spiral Shadow". It´s simply more memorable and features better songwriting/5(2).

Still, Spiral Shadow is so much more than a collection of spiffy intros that segue into head pounding metal riff fests. Tracks like "Dust" and "Spiral Shadow" showcase Kylesa's newfound ability to take a simple, slow motif and not only build on it, but eventually turn it on it's head and create a massive soundscape out of it.

Apr 28,  · Phillip Cope, who also covers his share of the guitars and vocals, produced “Spiral Shadow” and captures Kylesa at the band’s heavy breathing best. Instead of the dirtier, more claustrophobic treatment sludge tends to get, Cope opts for an expansive setting here, with more space than an empty warehouse.

This Savannah, GA-based hard rock band has finally painted its masterpiece on this, its fifth full-length. Kylesa 's use of two drummers (a practice that began on 's Time Will Fuse Its Worth) has really paid off on this disc, adding rhythmic intricacy without devolving into proggy abstraction or wallowing in Melvins -like thudding/

Kylesa’s Spiral Shadow is an album to experience in the moment. This is an instrument-forward album, with creative guitar tunes and drums. Most of the songs rely on distorted sounds, and this includes the singing. The two vocalists are distinguished not just by their gender, but their style of singing/5(27).

Therefore, it’s initially a little hard to consider Spiral Shadow, Kylesa's fifth album, without noting that it’s being released barely outside of Static’s considerable shadow. To the band.
